The Living Heritage. Embracing Cultural Diversity

“The Living Heritage” is a partnership project, which brings together eight European organisations with the aim to promote and sustain intangible cultural heritage as key in personal and professional development.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) represents a wealth of knowledge and skills that is transmitted from one generation to the next, and its great social and economic value is widely recognised. Our project aims to empower the older citizens as bearers of the ICH to increase their key competences and to equip them with the skills which would enable them to take leadership role in protecting and promoting the ICH of their communities.

The adult learners will be engaged in educational activities to improve their communication skills and their ability to express themselves in a foreign language and to use digital technology to record heritage. They will be supported to take part in mobilities and participative workshops featuring practical examples related to six areas of the ICH: handicrafts and the visual arts; gastronomy; social practices, rituals and festive events; music and the performing arts; oral traditions and expressions; and knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe.

The project will enhance the individuals' intercultural competence and will encourage them to participate in an effective and constructive way in social and working life. It will improve their personal and social well-being, which in turn will reflect positively on the communities as a whole.

We will explore existing systems of recording and documentation of the knowledge of the older generation that would be particularly helpful and useful for the continued preservation of the ICH. We will prepare guidance on the use of these systems as well as methodological recommendations on the ICT training for our target groups.

"The Living Heritage" project will facilitate the exchange of ideas, methodologies and best practice between eleven partner organisations from different European countries, which will enhance their capacity and expertise and will improve access to lifelong learning and active social life for disadvantaged groups in the participating countries.
